Understanding Children Who Learn Differently

Most children who struggle with learning differences are not in special schools. They are sitting in our regular classrooms, often misunderstood and unsupported.

What is DINO?

DINO is a school outreach initiative that helps teachers and parents better understand children who learn differently.

Inspired by the book Do Dinosaurs Wear Socks?, written by

 K. Sreedevi,  DINO combines books, workshops, and meaningful conversations to build awareness, empathy, and practical understanding of learning differences in mainstream classrooms.

DINO stands for

Discover children's strengths and challenges

Identify learning needs early

Nurture confidence, skills, and wellbeing

Open Opportunities for growth and success

The initiative focuses on helping adults recognise learning and attention challenges early, respond with greater understanding, and create environments where every child can thrive.

Why DINO?

Post-Covid Learning Gaps

Increased screen exposure

Academic pressure

Attention Challenges

The need is not simply academic support. The need is understanding.

Who Are We Talking About?

These children are present in almost every mainstream classroom. They are often intelligent, capable, and full of potential—but may learn, process information, or respond differently from their peers.

Dyslexia

Children who may struggle with reading, spelling, and processing written language despite having average or above-average intelligence.

ADHD

Children who may struggle with attention, impulse control, organisation, task completion, or self-regulation.

Executive Function Challenges

Children who find planning, organising, remembering instructions, managing time, and completing tasks difficult.

Dysgraphia

Children who find handwriting, written expression, and organising their thoughts on paper particularly challenging.

Slow learners

Children who learn at a slower pace and benefit from additional time, repetition, and support to master concepts.

Gifted learners

Children with exceptional abilities whose advanced thinking, creativity, or curiosity may sometimes mask their support needs.

Beyond Labels

Every child is unique. Many children may experience more than one of these challenges, while others may simply learn differently from their peers.  The goal is to understand them better and create environments where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
